Volunteers are essential to helping us achieve our mission! We’ve used volunteers for everything from graphic design to program delivery. We are looking for volunteers to serve on boards and committees, to assist with fundraising events, regular classroom volunteers, and guest speakers for our programs. Please see our full list of volunteer opportunities below. If you have a special skill (videography, Spanish translation, events, etc.) and would like to get involved, please let us know how you’d like to help us! Contact angeladevries@stemmingideas.org.
Program Volunteer
Details: Volunteers assist in the classroom during our regular programs. Volunteers help guide student activities, encourage students, and answer questions. Students are in middle school or high school. Volunteers must pass volunteer screening and background checks by school district (coordinated through Stemming Ideas).
Date/ Time: Volunteers should commit to one program location/ time during the duration of the program (4-12 weeks). Program locations and times vary but are typically about one hour per week. Contact Angeladevries@stemmingideas.org to see what programs fit your schedule.
Guest Career Speaker
Details: We need volunteers to speak and answer questions for roughly 10 minutes to students about their STEM job, and the path they took to get there. The goal is to introduce underrepresented youth to careers in STEM that they may not have considered in the past and learn how they can become qualified to do that in their future. Volunteers must pass volunteer screening and background checks by school district (coordinated through Stemming Ideas).
Date/ Time: This is a one-time volunteer opportunity, but it could be repeated at multiple program locations if you are interested. Volunteer talks last about 10-15 minutes plus travel and set up time. Contact Angeladevries@stemmingideas.org to see what program fits your schedule.
Board/ Committee Member
Details: We have various positions open on our board and committees. In particular we need board members with legal, HR, and/or financial backgrounds to help us as we grow. We also are forming a Program Committee and a Community Relations and Fundraising Committee where we need volunteers! Program Committee members help suggest, develop, and review our program content and delivery opportunities. Community Relations and Fundraising Committee members will help us grow awareness, recruit volunteers, and start a fundraising event.
Date/ Time: Boards and committees meet about once a month for an hour, plus additional duties as decided to take on (committee work, program, fundraising, etc.). Email Angeladevries@stemmingideas.org to learn more.
Stemming Ideas Helpers
Details: On occasion we need volunteers to help with one-off tasks and events, such as preparing new materials, helping with fundraising events, assisting with one-day programs, and preparing mailings/ packets. We keep a list of helpers we email with these opportunities as they come up.
Date/ Time: Varies. Volunteers can sign up for any opportunities that fit their schedule and interests. Email Angeladevries@stemmingideas.org to be added to the helpers list.
